Azerbaijani police launched campaign against gay and prostitution

According to Human Rights Watch’s report on Tuesday, the Azerbaijani police launched campaign against gay and prostitution which is illegal in the country.

Since September, dozens of homosexual, bisexual and transgender people have been arrested in Baku with blurry reasons.

Many of them were tortured, beaten and forced to reveal other homosexuals. HRW urges an independent investigation as soon as possible.

Azerbaijani police have said in response: since mid-September, 83 people have been arrested for suspicion of prostitution. According to them, these cases dont connect to “persecution of sexual minorities”.
